Meet Garicea Webb

Women in Construction week is March 1-7, and Elevated is proud to shine a light on the women who keep our operations running smoothly every day. Construction and skilled trades have traditionally been viewed as male-dominated fields, but that narrative is changing thanks to elevator technicians like Garicea Webb. Garicea is a service technicians in our Southeast region, and plays a vital role in keeping our elevators running safely and efficiently for the communities we serve. We sat down with Garicea to learn more about her journey at Elevated.

How long have you been in the elevator industry? Over 10 years!

How did you get started in the Elevator Industry? I attended a trade school in New York City called Non-Traditional Employment for Women. At this school we were educated in basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing e.t.c. Upon completion we were given an opportunity to join any Apprenticeship program offered in NYC, and I chose the Elevators Apprenticeship because there was always consistent work, competitive pay, and endless opportunities to grow.

What’s a challenge you’ve faced in your career, and what did you learn from it? The biggest challenge I overcame during my career was working during the 2020 pandemic. During that time I lost my job due to the city (NYC) being shut down, I was lost and not sure of what to do next. I decided to relocate to Georgia and start a new life. I started working back in the elevator industry shortly after relocating to GA. Something I love about this industry is that as long as you have a trade and a skill, and work hard, you can go anywhere and start your career over.

What are the most impactful development experiences you’ve had here? The most impactful development experience I have encountered at Elevated was our brake maintenance training with Luke. Luke was very informative and hands on and I believe he is a great mentor who is always available for questions and concerns. I am appreciative for the opportunity to learn more and advance my skills.

What do you enjoy most about working in this industry? I enjoy seeing the customers happy when their elevator is fixed. I enjoy building relationships with customers and ensuring them they can count on me in times of need.

What advice would you give to other women in the elevator industry? Stand tall. Work smart. Stay safe. And never forget…..You belong here.
